How can your company help event planners to meet their sustainability objectives?

At Thorns Group, sustainability is integral to our operations, as it now often is for organisers and exhibitors too. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to greener events and exhibitions.

Recognising the importance of reducing our ecological footprint, we have embarked on a journey to implement eco-friendly practices throughout our operations. We are currently working with external companies to develop our policies and carbon emission reports each year and find new ways we can help our planet. Last year, we set up our first ‘Sustainability Team’. The team members have since been having regular meetings alongside ‘Green Circle Solutions’, experts in green events, to develop new ways to help organisers and exhibitors become more sustainable. As well as this, we’ve begun to collect our carbon footprint data each month, to be able to share internally and externally, so we can see where we can improve. We also continuously collaborate with organisers and their sustainability teams to provide data on transport, waste, and packaging per event, using popular industry systems such as TRACE.

Folding vision benches are just one way we’ve worked hard to make our business even more sustainable. One of our most popular seating items, the iconic vision bench, would usually take only 4 to fill up a pallet when transporting. The engineering teams at Thorns Group worked tirelessly to design and transform these benches into a new system that allowed them to fold down when not in use. This revolutionary innovation now allows us to fit up to 25 within a single cage, reducing the number of trailers needed to arrive at an event or exhibition.
