How can your company help event planners to meet their sustainability objectives?
Sustainability underpins everything we do at Eden. 'Sustain-ability' basically means 'the ability to carry on'. To do that we all need to live with the grain of nature, within its natural cycles and not beyond its boundaries. We are pioneering in the field of sustainability, here are just a few of the things we do to help reduce the impact we have on the planet
1. Eden Geothermal - we are the home of the UK's first operational deep geothermal project in 37 years. The heat produced from this well supplies heat for our buildings and our nursery, which enables us to produce plants for food consumption meters away from our kitchens and restaurants.
2. Minimizing waste through our onsite recycling centre: 54% sent for recycling;19% of waste composted;23% creates energy from waste and 4% sent to landfill. We have mini recycling stations though out our site.
3. Promoting electric vehicles with our own fleet of electric vehicles for internal logistics and to support guest experience along with 20+ EV charging points for guests to use.
4. Cutting out the plastic - we’ve made huge strides in reducing our plastic footprint: we’re phasing out single-use plastic in front of house areas, for example on food and drink packaging, and the bars at our Eden Sessions concerts stock reusable cups, preventing 56,000 single use plastic cups being used each year.
5. Saving water - we collect two-thirds of our water needs are provided from water we collect ourselves. Our underground drainage system collects all the water coming on to the site, which we use to irrigate our plants and flush our water-efficient loos. We also harvest the rainwater that falls on the Biomes to irrigate the plants inside, top up the rainforest waterfall and maintain the high humidity inside.
